  1. Hold a recognized high school diploma or bachelor’s degree (depending on the level of study).

F. Tuition and Living Expenses

UMRAH provides affordable tuition rates supported by the Indonesian government, and living costs in Tanjungpinang are relatively low compared to major Indonesian cities. Accommodation and international student support are available through the International Office.

Visa & Immigration Information

International students intending to study at Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH) must comply with both immigration visa regulations and study permit (izin belajar) requirements under Indonesian law. First, prospective students must obtain an appropriate e-Visa or visa type via the official Indonesian immigration portal (evisa.imigrasi.go.id). This requires creating an account as a foreign applicant, uploading a valid passport (with at least six months validity), a passport-size photo, and completing the online form. The visa fee must be paid (using credit/debit cards such as Mastercard, Visa, or JCB) and, once approved, the visa document will be sent to the applicant’s email and be downloadable in the system.

After arrival in Indonesia, international students must apply for or convert to a residence permit / stay permit aligned with the duration of their study program through the immigration services system.

In parallel, students must also obtain a Study Permit (Izin Belajar) via the Kemdikti / Izin Belajar portal (izinbelajar.kemdiktisaintek.go.id). This permit is issued after the university completes and submits required documents to the Directorate of Higher Education, R&D, and Technology. Documents required typically include: official acceptance letter (LOA) from the university, scanned academic transcripts or diploma, passport copy, proof of financial guarantee, health statements, statements of non-employment during study, and a guarantor letter (if required).

Failure to satisfy either the immigration visa or study permit requirements may result in legal consequences, inability to register courses, or deportation. UMRAH strongly assists international students through its International Office to navigate both visa and study permit procedures efficiently and in full compliance with Indonesian regulations.

Pre-Arrival Preparation

Before traveling to Indonesia, make sure to:

  • Print and carry your insurance card and policy details at all times.
  • Save the emergency hotline of your insurance provider.
